Neil Baker

Neil Baker is a Consultant Diabetes Podiatrist formerly working at Ipswich hospital diabetic foot unit. He was pivotal in delivering a service that has managed to achieve and maintain one of the lowest amputation rates in the world for over a decade. He qualified in London and worked in several clinical specialties before leading the hospital podiatry service at Worthing, he moved to Southampton to help establish the diabetic foot service. He was a clinical tutor in the school of podiatry there also. He developed a module on the diabetic foot for the Open University and helped develop diabetic foot competencies for UK skills for health.

He was a co-founder of and previous chairman of Foot in Diabetes UK (FDUK), sat on the health professions council of Diabetes UK and their conference committee, he teaches and examines on the diabetic foot module run by Society of Podiatrists and is a visiting lecturer at Ulster University. He is active in research and has written many papers and book chapters. He is active in post graduate education around the world, and as a key opinion leader is involved in many national strategic initiatives. He has received fellowships from the College of Podiatry and Royal College of Physician and Surgeons (Glasgow). He has been involved in Step by Step training since 2005 and is a faculty member for TtFT.
